Capacity Building Southern DPOs
IDEA is organising two workshops in partnership with Southern DPOs to continue the work to facilitate Southern DPOs to set their own agenda for capacity building. The workshop for Southern Africa will take place in Johannesburg 21 – 25 January and the Asia workshop will take place in Dhaka, 20 – 24 February. The Secretariat of the African Decade of Persons with Disabilities is organising the Southern African event and participants will be drawn from the 10 SAFOD member countries. The Asia event is being organised by ADD, Bangladesh and will include participants from South and South East Asia.
Commonwealth Disability Forums
IDEA has received funding from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) to organise a steering group meeting to establish a Commonwealth Disabled People’s Forum. The meeting will take place in London in March. Funding has also been received from DFID to run a workshop for young disabled people from Commonwealth countries in the South to explore establishing a forum for young people with disabilities and to campaign to include young disabled people in the already established Commonwealth youth forum.
